The head of the entire police force of this district is the Superintendent of Police – who is assisted by three DySPs holding charge of Sub divisions, DySP (Admn), DySP Dist. Special Branch, DySP DCRB, DySP Crime Detachment, DySP Narcotic Cell. There are 11 Circles and 20 Police stations excluding Police Control room, Pathanamthitta, Traffic Police Station Pathanamthitta, Women Police Wing and Ministerial Wing. In addition to the above, there is Armed Reserve Police headed by one Asst. Commandant.


The District Police Office has been functioning in a rented building near Makkamkunnu junction, 1 KM West of Pathanamthitta town on the route leading to Omalloor, Since 1988. Prior to that it was at Azhoor since the beginning in 1983. District Police Office, Crime Detachment, Narcotic Cell, District Special Branch, DCRB, Single Digit Bureau and Foreign Registration Office are functioning in the same compound. Police store and VHF unit are in a separate rented building at Azhoor with in a radius of one KM.
